Karen Scott is a Gippsland based freelance book designer with over 20 years experience in art direction, typography, design and layout of books.

 

With Penguin Random House for 15 years, Karen has worked across Trade titles, Books for Young Adults and specialised in Childrens fiction and non-fiction - early readers and chapter books, series designs, box sets, slip-cased editions and packaging, puzzles and playing cards. Prior to Penguin she worked in educational publishing for Thomas Nelson (now Cengage), Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press and then Viking O'Neil. Freelance clients include Penguin Random House, Allen and Unwin, Magabala Books, Back Room Press, Ford Street, Twelfth Planet Press, RMIT, The Tasmanian Catholic Education Office and the Australian Literacy Educators' Association (ALEA).

 

As well as working for publishers, Karen enjoys facilitating independent authors to self-publish!

 

With a passion for Childrens literature, I especially enjoy working collaboratively with illustrators.
